Peake, Don 91 08/07/1917 02/14/2009 Don Peake passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Known for many years in Portland as "Peake, the Shade Man," he was also a dedicated Rotarian, an excellent golfer (often winning the long drive contests in Rotary and Floor Covering tournaments), and most of all a loving husband and father. He was born in Portland on Aug. 7, 1917, and attended Grant High School, the University of Washington, and Oregon State University where he was affiliated with Phi Gamma Delta. He was active with Demolay, the Al Kader Shrine and Friendship Masonic Lodge No. 160. He was a captain in the US Army, 104th Infantry Division, Timberwolves, and served during the second world war in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, during which he was awarded four purple hearts, the silver star and the bronze star. He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Marie Rogndahl Peake; their four children, Tracy Little (David) of Edmonds, Wash., Sally Peake of Portland, Charles Peake of Portland, and Nancy Peake-Hopkins (Greg) of Beaverton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and also by his sister, Justine Weatherford, of Lacey, Wash. A memorial service will be held at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Rose City Park Presbyterian Church where he was a life-long member.
