Sr., Robert Edward Picard 88 9/29/1920 6/22/2009 Robert Edward Picard Sr. died peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2009, in the home of his longtime companion, Ruthie Bargmann. He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Laconia, N.H., to Clover P. Picard and Nellie Marie Wood. He was the oldest of six children. After graduating from Laconia High School, he traveled west and eventually settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the early 1960s he moved to Portland with his wife, Margarette, and their three children. They lived in the Hawthorne district, where he kept and tended a garden of rose bushes for over 40 years. He worked at PPG Industries for several decades until his retirement in August 1984. In his golden years he was a devoted volunteer at the Outreach Ministry and a member of Unity Christian Church in Portland. He was at times a regular crooner who enjoyed singing Sinatra songs in the piano bar at Wilf's, inside Portland's historic Union Station. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge on Southeast Hawthorne where he loved to dance and inspired many friends with his warm demeanor. He is survived by his brother, Richard Picard (Mary) of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; daughters, Lynne Hampton of Bremerton, Wash., and Polly Sinclair of Clackamas; son, Lyle Picard (Margo) of Seattle; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his son, Robert E. Picard Jr.; and wife, Margarette. A private service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Neighborhood House Senior Center, 7688 S.W.
