Monica Reneé Armenta 40, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2009, after a long and courageous battle against a brain tumor. She was surrounded by her mother, brother and sister when she took her last breath. Born in Tucson, AZ on February 26, 1969. Monica was a 1987 graduate of Sahuaro High School. She was employed by the University of Arizona Athletics Department for 21 years, most recently as secretary to Coach Lute Olson. She is survived by her mother, Leonor Benitez; father, Robert Armenta; brother, Gabriel Armenta; and sister, Alexandra Armenta. Preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. She leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. Even in death, Monica is an amazing woman who learned the value of life at a very young age. She has a big beautiful smile that no one will ever forget. In honoring her request, Monica's body has been donated to research. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ 85715 on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend a light reception following the services.
