Louis James Abril, 69, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at home. Louis was born in Yuma, Arizona on January 8, 1940. Louis grew up on 15th Avenue and was a Yuma Union High School Criminal, and graduated at the top of his class. He then went on to serve proudly in the National Guard and was even on standby for the Cuban missile crisis. Louis retired from the City of Yuma as a Mechanic after 20 years. He was a Plant Supervisor for the Gila River Bend until they closed. He then went on to work for the Cocopah Casino for 15 years. Along his 69 year journey he made many friends, anyone that had the pleasure to know Louie, knew he was a self-sacrificing man who deeply loved all his family. Many hearts are sorrowed by his passing and he will be deeply missed. Louis is survived by his wife, Ruthie Abril, sons, Frank, Tony, T.J. Abril; daughters, Elizabeth Abril, Yvonne (Joey) Ramos; 11 grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren; sister, Alicia Carlos; brothers, Frankie (Sally) Abril, Artie (Suzy) Abril, Charles (Theresa) Abril. Louis was preceded in death by his parents Louis (Gordo) Mendoza Abril, Adelina Ruiz Abril, and his sister Natalia Quiroz. A special Mass will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Mission De Nuestra Senora de Quadalupe, 417 15th Avenue, Yuma, Arizona. A golden heart stopped that day. Hard working hands were put to rest.
