Douglas C. BABCOCK Douglas Craig Babcock was born to Leon and Alice Babcock on September 8, 1923 in Seattle, WA. Moving to a five acre farm in Bellevue in 1934 gave him the opportunity to join Future Farmers of America and to win first prize for his pig at the Western Washington State Fair. At Bellevue High School he played football for three years, including the championship team in 1942. He worked his way through Wheaton College where he played football, wrestled and got a degree in Chemistry. He finished his master's degree at Northwestern in Illinois and went on to further graduate studies at the University of Washington. In December of 1958 he married Patricia Dir in the old building of First Baptist of Bellevue. They built their home in the Factoria area in 1961 where they lived together over 45 years until Doug's death on August 27, 2006. Doug enjoyed working with his hands including: building and maintaining his home, keeping the family cars running, and various wood-working projects. He was active in his church all his adult life. He took joy in his pets, his stereo equipment, and camping trips with his family. Many lives were touched by his quiet, caring manner. Survivors include: his wife, Patricia of Bellevue WA; daughter, Sue, son-in-law, Dan and grandchildren, Cassie and Wills of Issaquah, WA; brother, Vance of Peoria, AZ; and brother, Theron of Cresaptown, MD. Jean, his only sister, preceded him in death in November of 1982.
