George BIANCHI Was born on March 31st 1922 to Deliso and Adele Bianchi and died September 10th 2008 at the age of 86. He was a Seattle native who attended Franklin High School. He enrolled in the University of Washington and joined the ROTC in 1940. He married Mary Jane Simpson in 1942 and entered the signal corps at the start of World War II. From there he was sent to Officer Candidate school and became a 1st lieutenant. He was enlisted from April 1943 and was honorably discharged with "excellent character" in August 1944. When he returned from the service, he resumed his education at UW and completed his degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1954. He was promptly hired by General Electric and worked for them for 35 years. George and his wife were able to travel all over the world, even living in Sao Paulo, Brazil for 3½ years. They returned to the Northwest and settled on Mercer Island in 1957. He was then able to devote time to his great passion of boating that was started as a youngster. He rowed crew for UW, belonged to Itaipu Yacht Club in Sao Paulo and continued on to become a Commander to the Bellevue Power Squadron, a Commander of District #16 and in 1980 a Commodore of the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club in Bellevue, WA. His family was honored by being named Northwest boating family of the year in 1972. He also participated in predicted log races and sailing. George and his family were founding members of Saint Monica's Parish on Mercer Island and he continued to attend mass there throughout his life. His family will remember him as an intelligent man who would always remember what you were up to and ask how you were doing. They would usually be able to find him in his den "working" on his computer. He never gave up trying to learn something new and usually needed help getting the computer back to the way it was! He is survived by his wife of 66 years, three children, Lisa Bailey (Bob), Jeffrey Bianchi, Susan Mudrovich (Doug), seven grandchildren, Angela Hillman (Kyle), Austin and Andrew Nichols, Jennifer Bianchi, Alicia, Michelle and Myia Mudrovich, and one great-granddaughter Kaylin Jayne Hillman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-greats as well as many close friends.
