Frederic M. Babbitt 1903 - 1997 Tacoma school educator Frederic Babbitt passed away June 6, 1997. After teaching math and science at both Lincoln High and Stewart Junior High for 30 years in Tacoma, Frederic retired to his home in Gig Harbor where he enjoyed gardening, home projects, church and his grandchildren. Frederic served his country in active duty in WWII in the Armed Forces during which he served for 2 years as Battery Commander attached to the 410 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Iceland. He retired as Captain, and following this he resumed his teaching career. Frederic was a charter member at Chapel Hill United Presbyterian Church, and was active as Clerk of the Session, and also assisted with teaching and future planning for 25 years. He also was a member and secretary of the Artondale Cemetery Association of Gig Harbor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta, of 59 years, and also his sister, Ardsley and brother, Eugene. Survivors include 2 sons, Martin and wife, Arlene of Gig Harbor, and Dean of Tacoma; 4 grandchildren, Laurie Parkison (Roy), Douglas Babbitt (Megan), Brian Babbitt (Joanna), and Bonnie Shalto (Tony); and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thurs., June 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Artondale Cemetery in Gig Harbor, followed by a memorial service at Chapel Hill United Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Chapel Hill United Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
