Victoria Harriett CAMPBELL Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 6, 1927 to Tom & Mary Babb of St. Vital, Manitoba. She was raised in Winnipeg, graduating from Gordon Bell High School. In March of 1946, the family moved to Vancouver, BC, where her dad, a Constable in the Investigation Dept. of the Canadian National Railway, had been transferred. Vicki met Colin Campbell in the choir of Vancouver's West Point Grey Baptist Church early in 1947, and they got to know each other during frequent rainy walks along the beach of Spanish Banks. They dated until Colin graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia and accepted a job in eastern Canada. Their courtship continued by mail. On August 5, 1950, they married in Vancouver and began their married life in Toronto, Ontario, where their daughter Karen was born. Wishing to return to the west coast, in 1954 Colin found a position in the newsprint paper mill at Powell River, BC, where their son, Kevin, was born. In 1956 the family immigrated to the USA when Colin joined Boeing to work on the 707 passenger jet airplane. The family became US citizens in 1963. Vicki was a naturally happy person with many friends. Dancer (jitterbug), pianist (popular and classical), enthusiastic cook, good bowler and golfer, she loved a lively time. She loved to travel and made several trips abroad with Colin. She was for many years in the Overlake Service League, a Bellevue charity organization. She worked for JCPenney for 3 years. An avid bowler, she made many trips with her bowling friends to tournaments in Reno and Las Vegas. In 1995, Vicki had a stroke which left her with a disabled left arm and a brace on her left leg. Preparing and cooking meals and playing piano with one hand were next to impossible, and dancing and bowling were not to be. But with the help of family, she was able to have fun and enjoy life. Colin took her on vacations to Canada, Grand Canyon and Yuma, Bryce and Zion Canyons, California, and they visited family and friends often. In early 2008, health problems began to arise and compound, leading to her death at 9:15 pm on October 26, 2008. She is survived by her beloved husband, Colin, daughter Karen, son Kevin and wife Cordette, and granddaughters, Brendlyne, 13, and Ceilidh, 9, all in the Puget Sound area. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary-Lyne Oberg of Modesto, CA, and Elizabeth Hinke of Vancouver, BC. A gathering to "Remember Vicki's Life" is being planned for early January. Vicki's favorite charities are the Salvation Army, the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association Published in the NWsource on 11/4/2008
