Elizabeth (Betty) Crippen Betty passed away on February 18, 2005. Born in Bowling Green, Missouri in 1907, she moved with her family to Tacoma in 1919. Graduating from Lincoln High School, she earned a teaching degree from (then) College of Puget Sound. She taught in Oregon and Stanwood, WA before returning to Tacoma to marry, raise a family, and resume her teaching career. Betty taught Sunday School for many years at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She volunteered for 25 years at Wright Park Community Center. After retirement, she traveled widely with the University of Puget Sound Pac Rim Study Tours, led by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Albertson. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Art Crippen and by her brother, Paul Pugh. She is survived by her brother Dr. Samuel Pugh, her sister, Jessamyn (Bill) Sherman, two daughters, Betsy (Jim) Freeman and Marji (Herb) Shahan. Also surviving her are 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 8 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her Life will be held on May 7, 2005 at 2:00 in Kilworth Chapel on the UPS campus.
