Leslie R. Peake A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in St. John's Episcopal Church in Milwaukie for Leslie R. "Les" Peake, who died Jan. 8 at age 78. Mr. Peake was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Portland. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1941, and from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, and received a master's degree from the University of Portland. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and received a Purple Heart. He owned Peake Memorial Chapel for more than 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was chairman of Providence Milwaukie Hospital Foundation and was Clackamas County medical examiner in the 1950s. In the 1940s, he taught judo at Reed College. In 1966, he married Freda Faye Farley Roth. Survivors include his son, Ted Downs; daughter, Carolyn Sanden; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
