Doyle R. "Papa" PEACE Doyle R. "Papa" Peace was born in LaFayette, Georgia in the year of 1927 to his parents, Ivan and Bonnie Peace. The "Depression" was going strong during that time period, but the people who entered life during this piece of history were stronger than the circumstances surrounding them. It bred a capable and compassionate man, one who lived and loved with all of his heart. He could appreciate the small things in life (like eating boiled potatoes with his mother in the back yard on a hot Georgia day) or the more complicated (like the detailed processes of his chosen career in Aerospace). But if there was one thing in life we could say he was devoted to above all else, that was his beautiful wife of 56 years Gladys Jesselyn Reed Peace, who unfortunately preceded him in death back in August of 2003. Their love will live forever as an example in our hearts. His life read like a fantastic adventure story, from enlisting in the Army during WWII (personally delivering messages for Eisenhower to Russia and capturing singlehandedly two SS Officers who later were executed at Nuremburg), to his extensive travels to South America and Europe for the Boeing Company. He leaves behind a son Richard Dean Peace and daughter-in-law Judith Peace, a daughter Susan McGilvrey and son-in-law Robert McGilvrey, grandchildren Kimberly McGilvrey-Black, Rachel McGilvrey, and Daniel McGilvrey, a sister Debbie Lundgren and brother-in-law Carl Lundgren with their three sons Matthew, Jeremy, and Steven, and a brother Ray Peace and sister-in-law Donna Peace. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 7th at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Holt International Children's Services at P.O. Box 2880, Eugene, OR 97402, a charity he strongly believed in and also the charity that his grandchildren were adopted from. Published in print on 7/6/2005. Seattle Times
